There have been many, many changes made to our video along the way. Most of these changes were made because the way we wanted to do it wouldn't work, however a few of these changes were made to actually improve the video. The first major change in our planning was the locations. It was too expensive to use the beach as a set as Hunstanton is a long bus journey away, so we decided to swap this location for The Luxe cinema right here in Wisbech as it was a far more convenient location.
Our storyboard has also changed quite a bit from how it was originally. For a start, it was not raining when we filmed the scene at the rugby fields. Also I wrote that I wanted the love in our video to look 'easy' and 'fun'. It just looked plain awkward in the cinema scene as we decided that love would not really be so relaxed in the very beginning, and we wanted to show the different kinds of love. This is also why we chose to show a gay couple in the video. There was also an instrumental in the middle of the song that we forgot to plan at first but then we added it in later. I also added one last shot of the lead singer at the end for closure. We also wanted a pan out from the popcorn to the actors in the cinema scene, but this was unachievable as the camera wouldn't zoom out whilst recording. We also couldn't film the cinema screen as it was just playing adverts instead of a film (copyright issues) and we didn't have time to make our own tiny film clip to play as I would have liked. We could not use the drum kit as the music teacher would only give us the drums (no stands) and we weren't allowed to hit them. Instead we used another guitar. In the first lot of filming in the theatre we used a pink ukulele. In the second lot of filming we had to use a blue ukulele as we couldn't find the pink one. We also wanted to use 4 microphones and stands. In the end we just used 1 for the lead singer. We used white lighting in the theatre in the end as the multi-coloured lighting was too chaotic and made the actors look different colours on the camera. We also had no stage to use. We had originally wanted a big crowd and a concert in the theatre, but no crowd showed up so we decided to make it look like a rehearsal instead. The costumes also changed a lot. In the end we didn't need a hair/make up artist as (to show relaxation and comfort) we let the actors do their own. This made them feel more confident as they knew they would look good. We only managed to find 2 waistcoats and we decided not to use them if we couldn't have the whole band wearing them. In the beginning, we wanted the band to be dressed exactly the same like McFly were. However as the video progressed we decided to give each of them subtle differences. For example, they all wore different coloured bow ties and Mr. Hudson wore braces which made him stand out. Akshay wore a pink shirt in the final scene because we needed to film the scene there and then, but Lee-Jay never showed up. I managed to convince Akshay to be the replacement band member but he was wearing a pink shirt that day instead of white. Joe did not have a long coat to wear as one half of the gay couple, so he wore a short jacket instead and the boy who was meant to be in the restaurant scene (Akshay) couldn't attend filming over Christmas so Lewis McConnachie had to stand in. This meant that Lewis was not wearing a suit as we had wanted, instead he wore a collared t-shirt and jeans. Daniel wore a black shirt in the theatre scene, but then forgot and wore a pink one to the Luxe scene but we had no time to change that. He was meant to be dressed in casual clothes, but when we filmed the theatre scene after school, he had forgotten that he was meant to be there (despite countless emails and reminders). I managed to find him but it meant that he was wearing smart sixth-form clothing. Also, Paige was not meant to be in the video but Sarah pulled out so we had to replace her with Paige. Paige had braces in the theatre scene, but by the time we filmed at The Luxe, she had had them taken off.
The cast of our video has changed countless times. It went like this:
Band member 1-Matthew Barrett
Band member 2-Daniel Hudson
Band member 3-Joe Gamble
Band member 4-Lewis Barnard
Joe was wearing the wrong clothing thew first time we filmed so we swapped him and Ryan Clarke over. Then Ryan couldn't attend the second lot of filming so we replaced him with Lee-Jay Scott who said he could be there. Instead he went to football. I ran outside and found Akshay and luckily he agreed to help us and take Joe's original place.
So the band then looked like this:
Band member 1-Matthew Barrett
Band member 2-Daniel Hudson
Band member 3-Akshay Kishor
Band member 4-Lewis Barnard
The gay couple was originally:
gay guy 1-Ryan Clarke
gay guy 2-Louis Chamberlain
Ryan was swapped with Joe Gamble and we kept it that way so Joe was then playing the gay guy. Ryan couldn't be in the concert scene so he was then out of the video entirely. Louis never showed up to filming at the rugby fields (we had originally planned to film this scene at the same time as the restaurant scene) and neither did Joe. Louis then got replaced with Alexander Green as he was too unreliable.
Then the gay couple looked like this:
gay guy 1-Joe Gamble
gay guy 2-Alex Green
The restaurant couple was originally:
girl-Freya Hind
boy-Akshay Kishor
Akshay could not attend filming over Christmas as he was away in London. His replacement was Alex Green who never showed up. Luckily Lewis McConnachie came to filming with us as he is my boyfriend and wanted to help out. He agreed to stand in for us. Freya couldn't attend when we filmed the concert scene and her replacement (Martyna Shulz) never showed up. We then replaced her with Mayra Brando which was an excellent decision as Mayra is very pretty and helpful.
The restaurant couple then looked like this:
girl-Mayra Brando
boy-Lewis McConnachie.
The cinema couple was originally:
girl-Sarah Edwards
boy-Daniel Oakley
Sarah quit for medical reasons. Freya Hind and Martyna Shulz both wanted to help. Freya could not attend the filming of the concert scene and Martyna just never showed up. We were running out of time to Paige agreed to be in the video.
The cinema couple then looked like this:
girl-Paige Etherington
boy-Daniel Oakley
We found a lot of the school's students who wanted to be extras and they signed the contracts. However it would have been ridiculous to try to get them out of school to film at the Luxe (as we were only allowed to film there from 8:30am-11am, before they opened to the public) so in the end we didn't use any of them. We did invite anyone from school who wanted to come to be in the theatre scene crowd as it was non-uniform day, but only around 7 students turned up-and they just messed around. Edgaras Kobzaruk came to the first filming of the concert scene and he was really excited about it, but he couldn't attend the second lot of filming so he is not in the video. None of the boys we had planned to use in the restaurant and rugby field scenes turned up, so luckily a lot of our friends had come to watch and we convinced most of them to be extras. Paige also stood in as an extra in this scene and I was and extra in one shot of the cinema scene. Also Ewan McConnachie was our waiter. So, in conclusion, the only people who were reliable from the beginning and didn't change roles were: Matthew Barrett, Daniel Hudson, Lewis Barnard, Daniel Oakley and Ewan McConnachie. It was a big headache for us.
The biggest change since we started filming is that Toni-Marie Warden has left the school and is therefore no longer a part of our group. Paige also nearly left, but then changed her mind.
